Thermal rifle scopes bring thermal heat detection technology to the rifle scope. High performance, high tech scopes allowing you to hunt by heat signature in the darkest of nights and/or in fog and dust and very cluttered and obscured situations.

State-of-the-art thermal sensors to detect heat signatures from animals, humans, and other objects, providing clear visibility regardless of lighting conditions.

When assessing models these are the main factors to take into account. They directly relate to performance and price. Fact is, that with thermal night vision you truly get what you pay for as there is a very distinct relationship between technology/performance and cost or manufacture.

mK (milliKelvin) – the smaller the number the better. Is a measure of the smallest temperature differences that can be measured by the device. For a long time 35mK was the leader but now we are seeing 20mK as state of the art with exceptional sensitivity

Resolution: the old classic pixel resolution. Clearly the larger the better. So 640x512 is going to give you a better view than 384x288.

Objective lens size – Bigger is better as it means bigger field of view, more thermal capture etc.

So for the ultimate set up and longest range for your budget go for as low mK as you can, highest resolution and biggest lens size.
