There are 3 types of crossbow scope
1) "Regular" rifle scope type scopes, fixed or variable magnification. Differ from rifle scopes in that they have reticles with pre-calibrated marks or dots to indicate where the arrow will hit at different ranges (e.g., 20, 30, 40 yards), simplifying long-range shooting. Normally supplied without mounts. You need to choose suitable mounts. In most cases weaver/picatinny but check if unsure.
2) Red dot sights - Similar to those used on firearms, red dot scopes provide fast target acquisition without magnification. They typically use illuminated reticles but can have simple dots or multi-dot patterns for range estimation. As most crossbows have weaver/picatinny bases our selections are models with built in mount bases.
3) Prism sights - Prismatic sights offer an alternative to traditional red dot sights. They have an etched reticle, which remains visible even without illumination. Since the reticle is physically etched into the glass, astigmatism does not affect its clarity, making it a better option for those with vision issues. Many prism sights have magnification.
