Caldwell E-Max Low Profile Electronic Hearing Protection – Mossy Oak Break Up 85dB
The Caldwell E-MAX Low Profile Electronic Hearing Protection – Mossy Oak Break Up (85 dB cutoff) is basically a lightweight, camo-finished set of electronic ear defenders made for range days and field shooting where you want protection without feeling like you’ve got bulky cups smashing into your stock. It uses dual microphones to amplify quiet sounds like speech and range commands, but automatically shuts off amplification when noise hits about 85 dB, protecting your hearing from gunfire. Inside, it’s rated around 23 dB noise reduction (NRR), which is fairly standard for entry-level electronic muffs. The low-profile cup design is the key feature here, helping reduce interference when shouldering rifles or shotguns, and it runs on simple AAA batteries with basic volume control and an audio input jack for external devices.

Caldwell E-max Low Profile Electronic Hearing Protection Mossy Oak Break up 85dB
The Caldwell E-Max Hearing Protection - Low Profile combines great circuitry with a low profile earcup that's ideal for shotgun shooters and action shooters.
The two microphones in this hearing protector from caldwell will amplify sounds below 85 decibels, which amplifies normal communication, range commands, and environmental sounds.
Above 85 decibels, the microphones on the Caldwell E-Max Ear Muffs shut off for a split second to protect the shooter's hearing.
Two microphones - one in each cup - give the user true stereo sound and allow the user to identify the directional source of a sound. Includes an integrated audio input jack allowing music to be played. Runs on 2 AAA batteries (not included). 23NRR

1. What is this hearing protection used for?
It’s used for protecting hearing at shooting ranges while still allowing you to hear speech and ambient sounds clearly.
2. What does the 85 dB cutoff mean?
It means the microphones amplify normal sounds, but instantly shut off when noise exceeds about 85 dB to protect your ears.
3. What is the noise reduction rating (NRR)?
It’s rated around 23 dB, which is typical for lightweight electronic earmuffs in this price range.
4. Are these good for rifles and shotguns?
Yes, the low-profile cups are designed specifically to reduce stock interference when shouldering long guns.
5. Do they use batteries?
Yes, they run on 2 AAA batteries (not included).
6. Can you plug in audio devices?
Yes, they include an audio input jack for phones or radios.
7. Are they comfortable for long sessions?
They’re lightweight and fairly comfortable, but padding and sealing are basic compared to premium brands.
8. Do they provide stereo sound?
Yes, dual microphones give directional (stereo) hearing so you can tell where sounds are coming from.
9. Are they suitable for indoor ranges?
They work, but many shooters double up with foam earplugs indoors because 23 NRR is only moderate protection.
10. What’s the main downside?
They’re entry-level electronics, so sound clarity, sealing, and durability aren’t as strong as higher-end ear protection.
