The highly anticipated Optisan CP first focal plane riflescopes have finally arrived. The Optisan Optics CP 4-16x40 F1 FFP is available in both MRAD-based reticles and MOA-based reticles. These come with matching click values to it make sit nice and easy whilst out in the field to make your adjustments and holdovers.
The main reason the first focal plane reticles were introduced to the CP'S was due to the fact that the first focal plane reticles are always consistent no matter what magnification you are on. So with this being an air rifle focus rifle scope, predominantly used by HFT and vermin control, having the ability to call holdoffs using your reticle on every magnification is incredibly useful. This was the feedback received by Optisan and they listened to bring you the Optisan CP 4-16x40.
Much like its second focal plane brother, the CP 4-16x40 measures only 268mm in length and weighs only 530 grams. It features a 30mm main tube and one-piece construction made from aircraft-grade aluminium. If you are buying the first focal plane MRAD riflescope you are going to get a 0.1 MRAD click, and if you are buying the first focal plane MOA, you are going to get a ¼ MOA click. The turrets on these are low profile and under caps.
Both the MRAD and the MOA versions of the Optisan CP 4-16x40 F1 come with a non-illuminated reticle and feature a hash-mark reticle which will provide the shooter with more than enough holdover points to accurately call wind calls without having to dial in the turrets, making it a perfect choice for Air Rifle Shooters.
To follow on, the Optisan CP 4-16X40 has parallax adjustments from 10 yards out to infinity and features fully multi-coated lenses which are consistent throughout the CP range of riflescopes which shooters are incredibly happy with.

About FFP (First Focal Plane) reticles:
With an FFP reticle, the scale of the reticle changes with magnification. This means holdover marks stay true and accurate across the entire zoom range, making them perfect for long-range shooting and dynamic situations.
Q: Why FFP reticle?
A: Being first focal plane, the hash-mark subtensions remain accurate at all zoom levels—ideal for holdover without turret adjustment.
Q: Why choose FFP?
A: It ensures your holdover and windage references are always correct at any magnification.
Q: Is FFP better than SFP?
A: It depends—FFP is great for precision and long range, while SFP can feel less cluttered at low power.
Q: Does the reticle get too small on low magnification?
A: It can appear finer at lower zoom, but remains visible and usable.
Q: Can I set parallax and leave it?
A: Yes—side-focus allows you to set it (e.g., at 25 yards) and shoot multiple distances without noticeable POI shift.
Q: Is it lightweight?
A: Very—at just around 530 g and 268 mm long, it’s great for compact rifles.
Q: How robust is it?
A: Extremely—this scope has been springer-tested and withstands recoil typically associated with high-energy air rifles.
About non-illuminated reticles:
A non-illuminated reticle keeps things simple and reliable. With no battery needed, there’s no risk of power failure in the field. The etched design remains clear and visible in good light, and is ideal for those who don’t need illumination in their shooting conditions.
Q: Why choose non-illuminated?
A: It removes the need for batteries and electronics, keeping the scope lighter and simpler.
Q: Is it visible in low light?
A: Yes—the etched reticle remains visible, though it will not glow. For dawn, dusk, or night shooting, illuminated models are preferable.
Q: Does it save weight?
A: Slightly, as there’s no battery housing or circuitry.
