Does the clamp scratch or mar the blade?
The V-Block Clamp is designed with a rubberized lining on the jaws to protect the finish of your knife. To ensure maximum protection, especially on DLC or mirror polished coatings, make sure the blade and the clamp jaws are free of any metal dust (swarf) before securing the knife.
Can I sharpen very small or very large knives on this system?
Yes, this professional version includes two specific features for different sizes:
-
Small Knives: It comes with a "Small Knife Table" attachment that allows you to sharpen tiny blades (like pen knives) that might otherwise be too small for the standard clamp.
- Large Knives: It includes a "Clamp Stabilizer" to prevent the arm from flexing under the weight of heavy hunting or kitchen knives, ensuring your angle stays consistent from heel to tip.
How do I know which angle to use for my specific knife?
While the system lets you set any angle, a good rule of thumb is 20° for most EDC and pocket knives for a balance of sharpness and durability, and 15°–17° for kitchen knives to achieve a finer slicing edge. The included digital angle indicator helps you match the factory edge exactly if you aren’t sure where to start.
Do I need to use oil or water with the diamond plates?
No. The Professional Precision Adjust is a dry sharpening system. Using oils or water is not recommended and can actually make a mess of the magnetic components. To clean the plates, simply wipe them with a dry cloth or use a soft bristled brush to remove metal buildup.
How do I sharpen serrated edges?
Unlike many guided systems, this model includes a specialized ceramic rod specifically designed for serrations. You can use it to hone the individual "scallops" of a bread or tactical knife that the flat diamond plates cannot reach.
Can I achieve a mirror-polish finish with this kit?
Yes. The kit includes a leather strop and fine-grit ceramic hones. By progressing through the grits and finishing with the leather strop, you can remove the scratch patterns from the coarser diamonds and achieve a high-shine, reflective edge.
Why is the "Chassis Tilt" feature useful?
The Professional model allows you to tilt the entire sharpening unit back. This is specifically designed so you can flip the knife over (to sharpen the other side) without the handle hitting the table. This makes the sharpening process much faster and safer, especially for knives with long or bulky handles.
Is the system portable, or does it need to be mounted?
The unit features a heavy, stable metal base with non slip feet for use on any flat surface. However, if you have a dedicated workshop, the base also includes pre drilled holes so you can bolt it directly to your workbench for maximum stability.
